The Los Angeles Kings agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with defenseman Drew Doughty, the second overall pick in the 2008 draft. The 18-year-old Doughty had 13 goals and 37 assists in 58 regular-season games for Guelph of the Ontario Hockey League last season. The 6-foot, 219-pounder had three goals and six assists in 10 playoff games. (AP)

Sabres re-sign Numminen after heart surgery
FANTASY INSIGHT:
The signing came after the Sabres were assured by both their medical staff and doctors at the Cleveland Clinic that Numminen will be capable of playing at 100 percent after missing all but Buffalo’s final game last season following heart surgery to repair a faulty valve.
Numminen is a 19-year NHL veteran who turned 40 last month. He previously served as the Sabres’ alternate captain and has been a highly respected figure in the team’s locker room, in part for his unflappable nature and efficient style that rarely leaves him out of position. (AP)

Grant, 24, inked a two-way deal worth $475,000 on the NHL level and $50,000 in the American Hockey League.
Acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers on June 24, Grant spent last season with Philadelphia of the AHL, scoring 10 goals and 21 points in 72 games. The Manitoba native had one assist in eight games with the Flyers during the 2006-07 season. (PA Sports Ticker)
